Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventhly he rested from all his work. - Genesis 2:1-2 Head: March 20, 2019 marks the first day of Spring and a super moon. As I look out my window at night, it is so bright I can see into the distance, through the wooded area. I'm am always amazed at the night sky and how it changes, yet stays the same. Things we look for are the Big Dipper, the moon, the North Star.. Our eyes search the sky at night for something familiar and still it can look so very different. It's such a beautiful creation. Our God breathed the stars into existence, creating night and day, the sky, the seas, the land, and everything that grows. He created the moon, the stars, men and women, and so much more. He simply spoke, and the all powerful God of the universe and He was not even tired after all that work. He could have done all of that in one breath but He took His time. Possibly, He had something He wanted us to learn from the work. That we were designed to rest. My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. - Exodus 33:14 Heart: Seems like there is always a conversation among moms about how tired we are. Even the most energetic mom gets weary. Our kids and family do as well, but as moms we are always looking for energy to help us over come the tired. Mostly, it's not because of all we have to do, but because of all the sleep we are lacking. We were designed to rest. Our bodies are programmed naturally to need sleep when the sun goes down. Our melatonin rises and we want nothing more than a good nights rest. If you ever figure out how us moms can get a good nights sleep every night, let us know. Still, there is a pattern that our bodies crave. We crave it and our children crave it. Our Creator laid the foundation of workdays, followed by rest; along with the pattern of morning and evening. Yes, my. soul, find rest in God: my hope comes from him. -Psalm 62:5 Hands: As you lay awake at night you can hear a cadence of the Creator work as your day draws to a close. The work flow for the next day is followed by what little rest we receive each night. Even our Creator worked six days with an evening break. He is giving us permission to take a break and rest, to rest our bodies and our minds. The entire creation was designed in a familiar rhythm that we can count on every single night and day, even if our night and day are never the same. Some of our lack of sleep is just for a season, it's a lacking that we will not make up anytime soon. We can pray for rest for ourselves and rest for our children, our God will honor that prayer. Prayer: Lord, I thank You for Your perfect design. The rhythm of my days and nights were put in place, long before I existed, but You had my needs in mind when you created heaven and earth. I ask that You help my body and mind find rest during the natural rhythm of my day. Rest in general is coveted but sometimes rare in my life. Our world is a busy little place and so is my mind. Help me reestablish the natural rhythms of sleep that You designed for me long ago. Help my child(ren) to also develop healthy rhythms of sleep and awake for their benefit and mine. Teach me how to live by Your design and rescue me from exhaustion by way of Your perfect plan. In Jesus holy name, Amen.
