Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28 Head: Just has handwritten a personal invitation right in His Word to you and to me with such gentle lovingkindness, He calls us to come to Him and receive His gift. He knows that we've been out in the world in all its busyness. He knows that as moms we are weary and burdened. We can feel run down and worry ourselves over our children. He knows that we need Him to help us put it all down. He is strong enough for our heaviest burden so that we can run to Him, straight through the open door into His loving arms. In His arms we can rest, catch our breath and take Him in like the long drink of Living Water that He is. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. - John 12:32 Heart: Go outside and play. Stay outside and play. Don't come back in. In and out, in and out. These are the words I find myself saying to one little guy in particular. When we first received him he was not quite fond of me saying "go play." It would cause an utter and complete melt down, a broken heart, and overwhelming frustration for our little guy. 3 years later and I still find myself saying "go outside and play", "stay outside and play", "stop coming in and out", and so on. As I was praying alone I heard the outside door click so I met him at the door, I knew he wanted to come in and he always. uses the same excuse, "I'm dursty (thirsty)." I always hand him a drink., I had just told him he'd had enough and to "go play." I then saw him begin to sulk. I am convinced that he simply just wants to put eyes on me and that he's not as thirsty as he puts on. It's like I am his homing beacon, his safe zone for a minute. I began to think about how our God never turns us away. He is always with us and ready for us to press into Him and enjoys every minute. He's not bothered by us. He's not trying to mop floors, fold clothes, or cook dinner. He's just waiting on us with sheer delight for us to walk through that door and greet Him with love as He returns the gesture ready to comfort us and give us guidance. We can tell Him about our day, our burdens, our struggles, all of it... and then, without prompting we turn and go back out into the world to have our fun, knowing He is our safe place, our beacon. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. -John 6:37 Nothing is too difficult for our Jesus.Hands: What does this look like to us as mothers? The weight of the world is on our shoulders or your world could be falling completely apart. Jesus can hold you up and hold you together when you are exhausted to the bone, too tired to hold yourself up, or eve take a step of faith forward. Nothing is too difficult for our Jesus. He is waiting for you to come near to Him. There are ways we can reach out to Him for help, whether in prayer, in thanksgiving, in silent waiting, or pouring over His Word. Don't keep struggling on your own when you know your Savior has invited you in. He will never turn you away. He will dry your tears, turn mourning into dancing, ashes into beauty, and give strength to your weary self. Jesus has so much to teach us as mothers about love, even loving our own. Prayer: Lord Father, thank You that You never turn me away and that I am never a burden to You. Thank you for inviting me and that the door is always wide open for me to come to You over and over again. You let me come as often as I need to and you find delight in greeting me. When I feel like my hands are in the air from frustration, grief, or exhaustion I know I can always find my rest in You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
