Have you ever reflected on you life and thought, "How could God even use me?" Do you feel very insignificant and alone? Do you feel bound by the little life you have and the mundane tasks you are in charge of daily while admiring others who have found a higher calling? Nothing in your life has ever happened that seems significant enough for a powerful testimony that God can use? It was only a few years back that I felt this way, but I had this feeling inside of me that called me to do something bigger. It's a very confusing thing to feel one way about your life and being called to do the opposite. Go into the village opposite of you... That's how the verse in Luke starts. Go into the village opposite of you (Luke 19:30-31) didn't really mean much when I first started reading this scripture. Opposite? That place where you go that is on the other side of where you are. It's a pretty significant place. You think you are secure in one place and you find our Lord calling you to another...opposite. Opposite of where you thought you could be used, opposite of what you keep telling yourself, opposite of feeling useless and unimportant. You feel that calling to be more and go higher but you must start moving your feet to the opposite to find out how God will use you. All of your self doubt and words of self loathing, all those tiny moments in your day that go unseen by your family and you just want to scream to the world...I am here, this work I'm doing is important:! It doesn't look important, washing those dishes and folding those tiny undies. Maybe you come home from work (and that's a trial in and of itself) and you find so many things left undone. The shoes piled at the door way and the broom that hasn't moved in a long while, you find something inside you that picks up those shoes or pushes that broom and you wonder if anyone sees you. All the million little things you do for your family that feel so small and useless. Can God really use any of it? "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied..." Someone tied this little colt up to teach it that it was to remain stuck, it was to be still and feel insignificant. It had no where to go and the rope sure was a constant reminder that even if he wanted to wander and see great things he was to remain....tied. He wouldn't fight it, he would just be. He would just stand and be a colt and nothing more. Never even having been ridden by anyone. Talk about feeling useless and insignificant. Actually, he probably didn't even know any different. He was just a colt, being a colt, and doing what he believed with all his heart that colts were supposed to do. He never even imagined don't being without his rope. The rope was all that held him....except also, his mindset. "Go into he village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat." Not only did he not know that it was possible to live a life untied but he also had no idea that he could be useful. No one had every expected anything more of him than to just stand. However, someone saw him. Someone knew that he was tied and had never been ridden. Someone was fully aware of his small existence and knew that he was to serve a greater purpose, even if no one else in the world saw him. Someone Greater than all the rest saw him, a tied up colt who had never even been useful to anyone. He certainly did not know he was seen or even acknowledged, he had no idea someone was coming to free him and show him a bigger purpose. "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here." The command was given for the colt to be freed from something he didn't even know he needed freeing from. Someone was coming to him to untie his rope and show him his purpose. His purpose wasn't just to be any colt, his purpose was important to the one who commanded he be freed. His purpose was to be free and to serve. To be free and serve? Is that true freedom? Ask the colt who was tied to a pole? I'm sure you would hear that his purpose of serving was where he found his greatest freedom. "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sate. Loose it and bring it here...(v31)because the Lord has need of it." My sweet sister. do you not think that our Lord Father thinks much more of us than a simple little colt who had never even been ridden? This colt was to be the one that carried our Savior through the Eastern gate for His triumphal entry. This colt who had been tied and never been ridden was to perform one of the greatest acts for Christ that was ever written. It had been prophesied over and written about long before Christ was with us. This colt carried the Savior to His own destiny and to the salvation of all who believed in Him. This colt who had been tied and never ridden was of such significance to the Lord that the Lord knew of his purpose long before he was ever untied. As I sat and read these scriptures my heart cried...I want to be like the colt. I want to carry Jesus to the world and I want Jesus to use me in anyway He needs. All the things that I feel are insignificant about my daily walk, all the things that I feel tied to daily, Jesus will use it all. If He can use a colt, certainly He can use my obedient heart. He can use us right where we are. He sees us right were we are! He knows our purpose and our significance long before we ever do. Be the colt. Even when you feel like you will forever be tied, ask him to loose you from the things that are stopping you from serving Him. He will loose you. He very well may send someone to you that will lead you to Him. Maybe we need to be loosed daily? Maybe we just need to trust that our ordinary, everyday existence is important and isn't dependent on what the world says is important. Be the colt! Ask Jesus to help you be free so that you can serve in a significant way. Author Notes: It was only about 5 years ago that I felt this very feeling of insignificance and was desperate to serve our Lord. I had no idea how. He used me right were I was to become a foster momma to two sweet babies who are now forever ours. NEVER, discount the importance of what feels the smallest. I was meant to serve right were I was, He simply freed me from the feeling of insignificance and showed me my higher calling. Everyone's calling is different, God knew He could use my Mothering heart. I learned to appreciate folding all the tiny things, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing bathrooms, all of it...because He saw me and it was all important to Him because He could use it all. Romans 8;28
