We have had a fully functioning bathroom in the basement for a long time. We have made some updates to it and this months goal is to finish it out. Let me just tell you how much I wanted to kiss my husband when the last piece of drywall was hung. I actually asked for joint tape and mud for my birthday...I got a door bell instead...but the next step is joint tape and drywall mud.... Up until a few weeks ago we were using a gas water heater that would heat on demand. Sounds fancy, right? It was simply a portable camping water heater that you can put anywhere with a propane tank and have instant hot water. It was a temporary solution. The downside was that you could be taking a shower and literally run out of hot water because there was no more gas. You were mindful of running hot water at all times, the dishwasher and washing machine running meant we were using more fuel. A few weekends ago, Darling Husband, brought home a water heater, installed it and now we use electricity for hot water. When I tell you it takes a minute for your mind to switch gears from the little thought "I hope there is enough hot water" to not having to think about it at all...it takes a minute or two. I'm trying to decide what color to paint the bathroom. I'm all for white or light gray or whatever neutral color is trending. Right now I'm trying to decide what color to paint the bathroom cabinet. It was given to us and was originally a yellow toned oak finish. I painted it white and now... I realize the top we have is creamy. So, the bottom will have to be changed again. The floors will always be concrete. We still need a door for the bathroom and the closet. Currently we are using a curtain...that's fun.
The only thing I have dared hang on the wall is the mirror. The ceilings are 9 foot so the mirror in pictures looks like it needs to raised a bit...but we have littles that use the step stool. In our last house the boys had cute kid themed shower curtains. This time, I'm going to have to find something that's a grown up and more tasteful despite the fact this will eventually be the boys bathroom only. Maybe Navy...I've always liked Navy...with grey...or white. Below are some of my Pinterest inspirations. Nothing Navy but I do like green and grey apparently. There is an element in every picture that I love. I'd love to hear what elements you see that you would love to see in a guest bathroom. I'll post more pictures here as the basement guest bathroom progresses.
